Club
Lapidary
Shop
The Club operates
a fully equipped lapidary shop for use by any adult Club
Member, as well as by qualified and supervised Junior
Members 13 to 18. Six diamond saws are available for triming and slabbing,
six diamond wheels for grinding, four carborundum wheels for sanding, and four
leather wheels for polishing. Numerous other pieces of equipment are
also available for lapidary, jewelry and lost-wax casting. All members can get free instruction on the use of all equipment.
YOU MUST SIGN AN INSURANCE WAIVER, be trained BEFORE you can use the equipment, and be current with membership dues!
The Club has managed to keep affordable usage fees:
$ 1 per Hour for general usage, .50 to $ 1.50/hr per diamond saws, etc. (see fees list at the shop).
This is possible, because of the contribution with time and expertise on making in house repairs, and maintenance, by the shop managers, and member's care.
While using the equipment you need to be adequately trained, exercise caution ;
For Instance :
1)
Equipment must be properly lubricated by water or oil.
2) DO NOT press hard on the grinding wheels or trim saws. Ensure that rocks are firmly clamped on saws.
3) Be of assistance to less experienced members, share the equipment with fairness.
4) Report any malfunction to the shop instructor. Clean up the equipment and stations, turn off water faucets if not in use, or at closing time, etc.
The shop is open five
