This Society, combines geology studies with interesting field trips, mostly collecting crystals, and mineral specimens.
It is a great professional and friendly group. They have a few outings/symposiums each year,
You can participate by responding to their invitations in LA-Rocks (Yahoo  Message  Group). These outings are very educational and a lot of fun.
