Jalama Beach is a favorite collecting site by local clubs ). There you can find fossilized whale bones, tumbled agate and Jasper.
The best time to go is after large storms (Winter/Spring) and at low tide. You can search where the waves break on the sand.
Normally you may be allowed to collect in the intertidal zone (ocean side of high tide mark).
You should check your local State Park Rules before you start collecting, as regulations may change,
or may be different in some beaches.
Jalama Beach is located North of Santa Barbara and West of Lompoc (famous for their flowers and murals) |
