Bruce Mensinger own words on photography:
"I use Nikon digital cameras, both point-and-shoot and SLR, and occasionally a flat bed document scanner. The camera is almost always mounted on a copy-stand for rock-slabs, or a tabletop tripod for jewelry or specimens. Extremely close work requires specialty lenses or a microscope. Lighting is from modified track-lights, or fiber optic light-pipes on a re-purposed slide projector, usually together with various reflectors and sometimes polarizing materials. I use Adobe Lightroom software to process the camera files for viewing or publishing.
The rock slabs are generally 'as cut' in a slab saw, not sanded or polished. Usually they are placed in a tray of water or are painted with water using an artist's brush. Jewelry and specimens are photographed dry.
The Shop Report in the November 2008 Nugget contains a brief introduction to table-top jewelry and specimen photography "
